ND Frosh Wesley Shining
Guard Blake Wesley, a true freshman, is making a major impact for Notre Dame as he is second on the team in scoring with a 13.0 point a game average.
Wesley poured in a career-high 24 points in 25 minutes off the bench in the loss to Illinois. He made 9 of 12 field-goal attempts.
Wesley is a hometown kid who graduated high school in South Bend.
Junior guard Dane Goodwin has been steady and his 15 points against Illinois matched his team-high scoring average. He has scored in double figures in all six games and is pulling down 5.7 rebounds a game.
Junior forward Nate Laszewski added 13 points. He has averages of 8.5 points and 9.3 rebounds.
Notre Dame struggled defensively as the Fighting Illini shot 52.8% (28 of 53) overall and 40.7% (11 of 27) on three-pointers. The Fighting Irish played a clean floor game, though, with just eight turnovers.
Down 59-43 with 13:35 left, Notre Dame went on a 19-8 run that was capped by Cormac Ryan’s trifecta with 5:55 remaining. That drew the Fighting Irish within five points at 67-62 but they got no closer.
A transfer from Yale, senior forward Paul Atkinson is scoring 12.3 points and pulling down 6.3 rebounds a game for the Fighting Irish.

BC Showing Progress
Boston College hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2009. However, the Eagles are showing some signs of progress under first-year coach Earl Grant, who spent the previous seven seasons in the same job at the College of Charleston.
Sophomore guard DeMarr Langford Jr. is leading a balanced attack in which four players have double-figure scoring averages. Lankford is scoring 12.4 points a game and averaging 5.0 rebounds.
His brother, senior guard Makai Ashton-Langford, has averages of 10.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. He is the only starter back from last season’s 4-16 team that finished at the bottom of the ACC standings.
Guard Jaeden Zackery, a true freshman, is scoring 10.9 points a game.
Junior forward T.J. Bickerstaff is averaging 10.5 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds in his first season after transferring from Drexel. He is the son of Cleveland Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
Senior forward James Karnik sparked the win over South Florida by coming off the bench and scoring 12 points and snaring seven rebounds in 22 minutes. Karnik helped put the game out of reach when his six straight points extended Boston College’s lead to 57-44 with 2:53 to go.
Langford and junior forward Quentin Post each had 11 points and Bickerstaff finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Post, a Mississippi State transfer, blocked three shots and scored nine points in the first half when Boston College took a 30-24 lead.
Boston College turned the ball over just six times. The Eagles held South Florida to 35.7% (20 of 56) shooting, including 25.0% (4 of 16) from distance.

The teams split two games last season with each team winning on its home floor, Notre Dame 80-70 and Boston College 94-90.
The Eagles ended a three-game losing streak to the Fighting Irish with the win and notched just their second win in the last 18 games of the series. Langford scored 19 points and Ashton-Langford contributed 16 points and six assists.
Notre Dame has struggled to find consistency this season while Boston College is taking a step forward under Grant. The Eagles have been tough to beat at home and are primed to pull a mild upset.
