Will Tiger Woods Finally Tame Riviera?
For all his incredible career accomplishments this has been the one course Tiger Woods has played the most without ever tasting victory.
In eleven attempts (nine as a professional), Woods has a tie for second and just two other top 10’s, but no hardware (he finished second in 1998 at a different course).
Tiger Woods’ Results as a Pro at Riviera
| Year | Result |
|---|---|
| 2018 | MC |
| 2006 | WD |
| 2005 | T-13th |
| 2004 | T-7th |
| 2003 | T-5th |
| 2001 | T-13th |
| 2000 | T-18th |
| 1999 | T-2nd |
| 1997 | T-20th |
Last year he missed his first of just two missed cuts all season at this event. He was teeing it up at Riviera for the first time in a dozen years.
Suffice to say, Tiger has “struggled” at Riviera and despite his odds being a relatively juicy +2000, the best bet is to stay clear of him this week.

Bubba Watson Alternates Wins and Losses at Genesis Open
At the opposite end of the spectrum of Tiger at Riviera is Bubba Watson, who has dominated with three wins in his last five attempts.
In between those victories he’s sandwiched a WD and 14th place finish and also missed the cut in 2013 before breaking through in 2014.
Last 5 Genesis Open Winners
| Year | Winner |
|---|---|
| 2018 | Bubba Watson |
| 2017 | Dustin Johnson |
| 2016 | Bubba Watson |
| 2015 | James Hahn |
| 2014 | Bubba Watson |
It’s a tough call to go against the three-time champ, but count this as his off-year at Riviera and throw your money on someone else.
Rory McIlroy Due for a Victory
It’s hard to believe Rory McIlroy has just one PGA Tour victory since 2016 (Bay Hill last year.) He’s opened up 2019 with a pair of strong top-five finishes (six top 10’s in last nine tour starts), and has two respectable 20th place showings at this event.
He’s playing with Tiger the first two days and surely will be extra motivated to get the better of the Big Cat. It’s time for Rory to get back in the winners circle.
2019 Genesis Open Best Value Picks
Adam Scott (+3300): Unofficial winner here in 2005 (rain shortened), also has two career runner-ups at Riviera including in 2016. Also posted a recent runner-up at Torrey Pines.
Rafa Cabrera-Bello (+6600): Six solid top 22 finishes in last seven events worldwide. Decent T-26 finish in tournament debut last year.
Michael Thompson (+12500): Last three events have resulted in T-9, T-13 and T-10 finishes.
