RBL chase Bundesliga title in fourth season in top-flight

Bavarian giants showed renewed power in 7-2 UCL thrashing of Tottenham

Leaders have less intense October fixture schedule

Red Bull Leipzig are the team that powered its way towards the top level of German football without the history or tradition of its rivals.

Now, a decade after they were founded in 2009 and headed this season by new coach Julian Nagelsmann, they are hunting their first Bundesliga title while challenging the dominance of Bayern Munich.

Currently in second place just a point behind reigning champions Bayern, Leipzig’s average price for winning the prize has moved in from +1500 in August to +1000. Elsewhere, it’s +900.

Bundesliga 2019-20 Odds

Team Current Points Odds
Bayern Munich 14 -500
Borussia Dortmund 11 +500
Red Bull Leipzig 13 -+900
Bayer Leverkusen 13 +5000
Eintracht Frankfurt 10 +10,000
Vfl Wolfsburg 12 +15,000
Schalke 04 13 +20,000
Hoffenheim 5 +20,000
Werder Bremen 7 +25,000
Borussia Moenchengladbach 13 +30,000

*Odds taken at 2019/10/03

However, Bayern have just shown that they are entering a powerful new era with an historic 7-2 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

Champions in Seven Straight Seasons

They have been champions in Germany for the past seven seasons and their average odds for an eighth straight success have shortened from -400 to -490, with quoting -500.

On current form, they will not be usurped. However, the Bundesliga odds on Red Bull offer better and more interesting outside value.

With striker Robert Lewandowski in a devastating mood after scoring 14 times in his last 10 games, Bayern appears unaffected by the departure of stalwart players Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Mats Hummels and long-term loanee James Rodriguez.

It makes Red Bull’s task of overhauling the Bavarian giants a daunting one following their third-place finish last season.

Last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund have slipped from an average +410 to +530 although oddsmakers still rate them second favorites at +500.

Chance to Pull Clear

Bayern have a less demanding fixture schedule in Germany than Red Bull for the remainder of October so may extend their lead at the top.

Munich coach Niko Kovacs has also praised the form of new arrival Phillipe Coutinho who is on loan from Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry scored four against Tottenham.

So they are likely to maintain their drive in first place deeper into the campaign.

Leipzig are away at sixth-placed Bayer Leverkusen (October 5) then meet seventh-placed Wolfsburg at home (October 19) and third-placed SC Freiburg away (October 26).

It is a more challenging schedule and Red Bull may not keep pace. Though given the very short odds on Bayern, RBL could be worth a small stake at longer odds.

Pick: Red Bull Leipzig +900
